Does Loss of Control Make You Afraid?

Wisdom From the World

“Love makes us anxious…One has to lean a good way out of the self in order to love another and that always feels dangerous, especially if one has had any experience of abandonment, betrayal, or predatory behavior at the hands of those to whom one has become attached. We are creatures who, in the course of growing up, learn to fear what we most desire.” – Michael Vincent Miller

“Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.” – George Adair

Wisdom From the Word

“God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home, and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day- our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life-fear of death, fear of judgment- is one not yet fully formed in love. – I John 4:12-18 (The Message)

Keep Me Real, Lord!

“Lord, I grew up trying not to be controlled with a bent towards controlling. Here I am in a marriage learning how to love and to abandon control of my spouse. Forgive me the arrogance that just assumes that my way is the best way. Open me to my mate’s perspective and world. Help me to graciously journey through life with my mate, merging our dreams, our goals and our lives. May you be glorified in all of it….our failures and our successes”.
